Flash Cards – How To Make

Flash Cards – How To Make. The 100 Sight Words available on the internet to download are ideal. Here is the link:  100 Sight Words, Early Primary School

Preparation:

~~ If you have some lead time with your Prep child, ask your circle of friends to save the card dividers from tea bag packs, OR

~~buy sheets of card from the stationery shop. If you do it this way, you need to sit and cut the card.
With a small paper trimmer you can do this quickly. And you get a better result than using a scissors. From personal experience using a scissors is hard work.

~~Cards can be laminated so they last. If you decide to do this, leave a narrow margin around each card so the plastic doesn’t come apart. Another option is to seal the edges with sticky tape. A bit tedious.

Next Step: Get your printing style right.

~~A bit of practice is needed on paper first.
~~Use a permanent black marker with a thick tip.
~~Neat and even letters are the key. The reason is that you are modelling hand printing for the child.
~~Use the style that is taught in your child’s school or state. Link to helpful post : https://www.tutoringprimary.com/teach-handwriting/
~~Measure with your eye where you need to write each letter. The aim is to get the word centred.

And Finally: Copy each word

~~from the lists that come from your child’s school, or
~~lists available on the net. Dolch Sight Words and Fry Sight Words are the most used.
~~Word Lists are available on this site (Dolch and Fry) : 100 Sight Words, Early Primary School

Colour code each set with a colour in one corner. The children get to know what colour group they are doing well and are keen to move to the next set.

See Using Flash Cards, Post  for advice on the best way to use them.
